Addressing the gathering MP Namal Rajapaksa said that this was a project highly beneficial for the people of Rangiri Garden Village, who had been affected by the 2004 Asian Tsunami. This effort would also develop the existing friendly ties between the two countries he added.
Speaking to the Asian Tribune, National Secretary of Secours Populaire Francias, Henriette Steinberg, said that the response was so overwhelming that the factory was requested to double its capacity to 200.
“Response was so overwhelming that there was a request to double its capacity to 200. Moreover the majority of the employees are widows who lost their husbands during the 2004 tsunami tragedy,” Steinberg said.
She said that the NGO was very excited over the project adding that they were extremely happy to work in collaboration with government to assist the tsunami-affected peoples of Hambanthota.
In fact the Organisation constructed Rangiri Garden Village complete with 100 hundred houses, water supply and sanitation for the benefit of the people.
During the last six years, 53 projects have been completed by the People's Relief in the wake of the devastating 2004 tsunami in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand benefiting 250,000 people in 26 villages.
